It’s been a good week for Death Row Records.
First, Death Row star Snoop Doggy Dogg , whose real name is Calvin Broadus, and his bodyguard McKinley Lee were found not guilty on first degree murder charges Tuesday, February 20, 1996. They still face voluntary manslaughter charges, upon which the jury is still deliberating. The charges stem from the killing of Philip Woldenmarim, which Broadus and Lee claimed was in self-defense.
Secondly, it looks as if Tupac Shakur ’s Death Row Records debut All Eyez On Me is going to debut in the top five (if not at Number One) of the Billboard Album Chart when the results are published early next week.
And lastly, Reuter’s reports that MCA Music has purchased a 50 percent stake in Interscope Records, the label that distributes Death Row and Nothing Records, on Wednesday, February 21. Though the cost of the deal was not released, it is rumored to be around $200 million.
