September 8 [10:00 EDT] — Does the literary cannon that includes Chaucer, Shakespeare, and Keats have room for Tupac Shakur?
Maybe not, but the poetry of the late rapper will be the subject of scholarly debate at the University of California at Berkeley this fall.
According to the Associated Press, a junior will lead approximately 100 students through the pass/fail course this semester, and will examine the poetry that Shakur left behind after his death one year ago.
The AP also reports that the rapper’s mother, Afeni Shakur, is hoping to publish a collection of Tupac’s poetry.
